''Wadim Greenewich fled the Communist Revolution, his fathers and brothers didn't make it, he was ransomed out of jail, crossed into Turkey before starting life again in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. There, after running a photographic shop and teaching French, he did whatever he could to make ends meet, he came to the attention of the British Legation, after five years he was given British citizenship, so too his two sons. By 1929 he was in charge of the Passport Control Office, a cover name for espionage. Wadim was now controlling spy operations for the British across Bulgaria and beyond, in early 1941 his safe was cracked and they sent him on a train to Istanbul, he never arrived. What follows is true account of one mans struggle to survive, through his time in Sofia under interrogation, months in an underground cell at SS HQ in Berlin, 22 months in solitary confinement in The Bunker, Dachau, time in Flossenburg where 13 SOE agents were executed in two hours. As one of Hitlers PROMINENTEN (VIP POW's) he was taken with the others over the Alps where they were eventually liberation by the Werhmacht in April 1945.He came to Godmanchester, Cambridgshire, to start his recovery, before meeting with SOE chiefs in London. In later life he fought the British Government for compensation for his treatment at the hands of the Nazi regime and worked for the BBC.He lived the most incredible life, and I'm honoured that, with the full support of two relatives, I will be launching a book telling his story in the Autumn of 2026.Everyone says, 'this should be a film', I whole heartedly agree!!!I look forward to telling aleast part of his story.'' - Roger Leivers
