About This Event

The Derbyshire Addictions Advice Service (DAAS) will host a complimentary 6-hour alcohol awareness workshop on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, from 10:30 am at their Sheffield location. Aimed at individuals seeking to enhance their understanding and confidence in discussing alcohol-related matters, the course will be led by a range of professionals. This event is open to everyone interested in learning more about responsible alcohol consumption. While participation is free, attendees are encouraged but not required to make a voluntary donation of up to £20.

A 6-hour alcohol awareness course. Delivered in person, this course will increase your confidence when discussing substances.

About This Course:

This free 6-hour course will be delivered in person by one of our friendly and experienced trainers in Chesterfield. We’ve designed this course to be easy to understand, even if you’re new to the topic or want to refresh your skills and knowledge. This course will help you feel more confident when talking to people about alcohol use.

Who Is It For?

This training is for professionals who work with adults in Derbyshire, including:

Health and social care staff

Community support workers

Staff and volunteers from charities, voluntary organisations, and community groups

Cost and Eligibility:

This training is funded by Derbyshire Public Health, making it free of charge for frontline professionals or volunteers in Derbyshire who work with adults in health services, social care, and community-based roles.

How to tell if someone is drinking at a risky level

How to help someone reduce their risk

How to give a brief intervention to support and motivate change

How to refer people to specialist alcohol support

An opportunity to meet and network with other Derbyshire professionals

By the end, you’ll feel more confident helping someone with their alcohol use. In fact, 100% of learners say they feel more confident doing a brief intervention after taking the course.

Who are we?

The Derbyshire Addictions Advice Service (DAAS), formerly known as the Derbyshire Alcohol Advice Service, has been delivering training on drugs and Alcohol for many years. In 2017, Derbyshire Addictions Advice Service became part of Derbyshire Recovery Partnership to deliver this training.
