This workshop will explore the weird world of cryptids (think Nessie or Bigfoot!), mythic beasts, and creatures of legend, and look at the interplay between their mysterious realms and our own.

Taking inspiration from these fantabulous beings and a range of prompts, you’ll play with the expected and the unexpected. You’ll write some scary stuff before we dial up the whimsy. Laughter banishes fear, after all …

Workshop leader: Jools Warner has a PhD in Death Studies and is the author of 'Ernie and the Mage-Killer' (Bellows Press 2024, Sul Books 2025) and 'Shadow on Darkling Edge' (Sul Books 2026). She writes mythic and urban fantasy and spooky fiction, and she is interested thematically in mental health, community, and ancestral trauma.
