Develop your artistic skills in a relaxed setting at the Millennium Gallery.
Feel Good Art Club embraces a mindful art session to help you find stillness and calm and enjoy an evening developing your skills. Don’t worry if you’ve not picked up a pencil since school – it’s a relaxed and friendly group where all are welcome, from the more experienced artists to the absolute beginners.
Each session begins with a short mindful exercise led by your tutor, followed by a creative session linked to a new theme each week. You’ll take inspiration from different still life objects, artists’ work and reference images.
Materials and objects related to that weeks’ theme are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own too.
Each week is a stand-alone class but join regularly and really see your skills improve.
Upcoming Themes:
2 Sep - Monoprinting
In this session we’ll be exploring Monoprinting; a quick printing technique using acetate and ink. This session will be an opportunity to make lots of quick images, so you’ll go home with a big set of prints. Please bring objects or images of your favourite things to draw - We will provide a few object prompts, but focus will be mainly on introducing you to this printing technique.
16 Sep - All Surface, More Feeling
The surface on which a painting is produced is historically known as a 'support'. These 'supports' were then coated with a smooth layer called a ground. From cave art, parchment to canvas we will be exploring various textured surfaces with paints and drawing materials in an expressive, free creative way!
7th Oct - TBC
21st Oct - Alice in Wonderland:
Join us to explore all the artistic and creative possibilities in Lewis Carrol’s classic novel. We’ll look at artists who have been inspired by, Alice’s adventures, and study some of the most famous illustrations from the book, before creating our own responses.
4th Nov - Artists and their Pets:
We will be looking at how famous artists have used their pets in self-portraits, and other genres of painting and art. Bring in some photos of your beautiful pets to draw, paint and collage. Pet pictures can be of a current pet or a beloved family pet from your childhood or from the past.
18th Nov - TBC
2nd Dec - A night at the theatre:
The autumn and winter is theatre season and we will be celebrating all things theatre! From the pantomime, musical to Shakespeare, what does the theatre mean to you? Through props and visuals, we will be looking at what a theatre visit means to you.
16th Dec - Print your own Christmas Cards
Come create a series of cards and tags for presents, using simple block printing panels. We’ll use the block multiple times, so be ready to leave with a bunch of cards!
Please note that the rest of the gallery closes at 5pm. The entrance from the Winter Gardens will be closed. Please come in through the entrance on Arundel Gate, opposite Sheffield Hallam University.
This workshop is aimed at adults and the minimum age to attend is 14 years old. 14-16 year olds will need to be accompanied by an adult. For events and activities aimed at children, please see our website.
