A printmaking workshop hosted at the Moorland Centre in Edale.
Lino printing is a traditional form of relief printmaking. It involves designing an image and transferring it onto a piece of lino (a "block"). The block is then carved using handheld tools. Ink is prepared and then rolled over the block in readiness for printing. Paper is applied and then worked onto the ink which creates the final print. The carved block can be re-inked and re-printed to create multiple prints.
The Workshop:
Inspired by the beautiful location of the Moorland Centre and its surrounding area, this workshop will have the Peak District at its heart. We'll be looking to create prints that speak to what this National Park means to us.
* Open to beginners and seasoned printmakers
* All equipment and printing materials provided
* Guided step-by-step instruction plus one-to-one advice
* Have a go at a part or all of the process according to your interest and ability! You can:
- Draw something yourself to carve and print
- Carve and print one of the provided images and patterns
- Avoid using the carving tools and print one of the pre-carved blocks
We'll be printing A6-sized blocks and using black ink.
Your tutor will be Sarah who edits the Heath and Mud zine, which celebrates the landscape and folklore of the Peak District through art and creativity. Heath and Mud champions inclusivity and raises money for Peak District charities.
Notes:
We'll be printing using ink in this session, and there is a possibility this may stain clothing - so wear something that you are not too precious about (just incase). We'll also be using sharp carving tools, and advice will be given about how to use these safely. Envelopes will be provided for transporting your prints and carved lino block home, but they may still be wet by the end of the session.
