About This Event

On 3 October 2026, The Textile Coiled Basketry Workshop will be held at Memorial Hall in Buxton. This engaging event provides participants with the unique opportunity to craft their own coiled baskets, coasters, or placemats using a wide array of vibrant fabrics and yarns. Guided by experienced artists, attendees can immerse themselves in this creative process. Admission is free, though an optional materials fee of up to £60 will be charged for all necessary supplies. This workshop promises a rewarding experience for enthusiasts looking to explore traditional basketry techniques with modern flair.

make a coiled basket, coaster or placemat using your own choice of colourful fabric and yarn

Make a your own coiled basketry coaster or bowl by binding or sewing a thread, yarn and/or fabric around a core material. Learn a range of techniques and stitches from around the world to make a variety of patterns, experiment with colour and material combinations. Depending on the desired size of your coiled basket, you may need to complete it at home.

All materials and equipment are provided. If you have any fabric, yarn or other suitable basketry fibres that you would like to use in your project, you are welcome to bring them.

This workshop is suitable for beginners and the number of participants is limited to 10.
