About This Event

An introduction to goldwork embroidery workshop will be held at Shrewsbury Library on 5 December 2026. The session starts at 10:00 and costs £27.80. Participants will learn to design a leaf motif using traditional gold thread couching.

Design your own leaf motif and transform it into a goldwork embroidery with traditional gold thread couching.

Goldwork is the historic embroidery technique where a skilled artisan embroiderer uses metal materials to create surface decorations. The technique is particularly prized for the way these decorations can reflect and engage the ambient light.

Goldwork embroidery is one of the oldest English embroidery techniques with records dating from before the 10th century.

This workshop session is designed as an introduction to using gold threads. You will design your own leaf or flower, transfer to fabric, and create a beautiful goldwork embroidery motif. These techniques can be used in such versatiles ways within embroidery and fibre arts.
