Explore the human body through art and design.

Medics from the University of Southampton School of Clinical and Experimental Sciences (CES), the University of Southampton Medical School, and University Hospital Southampton (UHS) present an interactive exploration of the human body through art, design, and creative thinking.

Through hands-on activities, visual displays, and creative design challenges, you will discover how artists, designers, and healthcare professionals use creativity to understand, represent, and communicate the complexities of the human body and disease and how they design(ed) care solutions .

You will:

- Explore artistic interpretations of anatomy and health.

- Experiment with creative approaches to visualising the body's structure and function.

- Discover how design can help explain disease, diagnosis, and care.

- Create and engage with interactive pieces inspired by medicine and human biology.

- See how medics used art over the years to bring along health and wellbeing.

Whether you are interested in art, science, design, history or simply curious about how the body works, this workshop will encourage you to see the human body as a living masterpiece. You will leave with a new appreciation of how creativity can help(ed) us understand ourselves, communicate complex ideas, and reimagine health and disease in meaningful and accessible ways.

Venue: John Hansard Gallery, Active Space (Level 2) and Screening Room

Workshop Time: 11:00, 12:30 (Active Space); 15:00, 16:00 (Screening Room)

Run Time: 50 minutes

Suitability: Age 18+ only
