Skill Bootcamp in Property Maintenance & Retrofit Readiness

The Skills Bootcamp in Property Maintenance & Retrofit Readiness is designed for individuals aged 19+ who are looking to start, return to, or progress their career in property maintenance, construction, refurbishment or retrofit. It is suitable for people who are new to the industry, those looking to refresh or broaden their existing practical skills, individuals considering a career in retrofit and energy efficiency, and those already working in construction or property maintenance who want to develop their knowledge and practical abilities.

The course offers a wide range of benefits, providing learners with practical, industry-relevant skills and knowledge to support progression within the property maintenance, construction and retrofit sectors. Participants will develop their understanding of property maintenance, health and safety, sustainable construction and retrofit principles, alongside practical skills that can be applied to a range of property maintenance and refurbishment activities.

Learners will explore how buildings can be maintained, improved and adapted to increase energy efficiency, reduce environmental impact and improve the performance of homes and other buildings. The programme also introduces learners to the growing opportunities within the retrofit and energy efficiency sector, helping them understand the role skilled workers can play in supporting the transition towards more sustainable buildings.

The Skills Bootcamp helps individuals develop practical property maintenance and retrofit skills, increase their confidence, explore career opportunities and improve their employability, while supporting employers and the wider construction sector to develop a skilled workforce capable of contributing to the maintenance, improvement and decarbonisation of the built environment.These courses are designed for employees in organisations of any size who are ready to take the next step in their career.

The 10-week Skills Bootcamp in Property Maintenance & Retrofit will include:

Introduction to Repairs & Maintenance - Identifying & Understanding Defects

H&S, mitigating site hazards, working at heights, PPE and isolating electric and water supplies

Masterclass refresher on tools

Masterclass refresher on decorating skills

Masterclass refresher on carpentry

Masterclass refresher on bricklaying

Masterclass refresher on plumbing

Understanding retrofit market and opportunities including energy assessment and retrofit installation measures

Masterclass refresher on different retrofit installation measures

About Skills Bootcamps

Skills Bootcamps have been created to provide you with the necessary sector-specific skills to enter a new field or to progress in your current role or business.

These Skills Bootcamps are free to all learners who are 19+ and reside or work in Cornwall and are funded by the DWP and Cornwall Council. Once you have enrolled via Eventbrite, a member of the team will be in contact with further information and an enrolment form to complete.
