German History Society Annual Conference 2026

We invite you to register for the seventeenth Annual Conference of the German History Society (GHS), a welcoming and intellectually stimulating event for scholars and enthusiasts of German history.

The GHS Annual Conference is held at a different venue across the UK and Ireland each year. It brings together researchers from around the world to share ideas, present new work, and engage in discussions on German history in its broadest sense, from the Medieval period to the present day, and across global contexts.

The 2026 conference will take place at the University of Stirling, featuring keynote lectures from Maria Alexopoulou, John Breuilly and Len Scales, alongside a diverse programme of panels and papers. Our local organiser, Nikolaos Papadogiannis, has also arranged a traditional Scottish ceilidh, offering a great opportunity to socialise and connect.

What to expect

Keynote talks from leading scholars who will be addressing this year's theme of transnational and global histories of Germany

Panel sessions covering a wide range of topics and historical periods

Presentations from academics and postgraduate students

Opportunities for discussion, feedback, and networking

A friendly and constructive environment for sharing both completed work and work in progress

Social events, including a conference dinner and ceilidh
