Stratford-upon-Avon Research Conversation: For the Love of Warwickshire: Revising the Pevsner Guide.
Monday 12th October.
In 2010, Chris Pickford was invited to revise the existing Pevsner Guide to Warwickshire. How did he set about this? What were the scope and nature of the revisions? In particular, this research conversation will describe the kind of information which was deemed essential for the revised guide - on specific buildings, and on the architects and craftsmen who worked on them. It will also focus on some of the archival sources required to make the revisions for the County as a whole, some of which are available at the Shakespeare Centre. These include architectural records, local building plans, the remarkable collections of illustrations and the landed estate records (e.g. Stoneleigh and Compton Verney) held locally. A handout with examples from the collections will be available at the meeting.
Presented by Chris Pickford, archivist and architectural historian.
Free of charge. Donations encouraged. Tea and coffee available. Presented by Warwickshire Libraries and The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.
Time: 3:30pm - 4:30pm
Date: Every second Monday of the month (excluding Bank Holidays)
Age: 16+
Booking: Booking essential
Refreshments: Free refreshments available
