The NEYA Child Poverty Network is a regional youth-sector stakeholder network, closely aligned with the North East Child Poverty Commission (NECPC) and sharing its belief that child poverty in the North East is not inevitable, and that ending it is worth working together.

Following a period of bi-monthly network meetings, we are now looking to develop the network further through a small number of regional events across the North and South of the region. These events will provide an opportunity for colleagues to come together, share practice and explore how we can collectively strengthen our response to child poverty and its impact on children and young people.

As part of this event we will look at local strategies, specific initiatives or programmes, approaches to involving children and young people, partnership working and there will be opportunities to discuss emerging practices.

We are particularly interested in exploring:

What approaches are currently being taken locally to tackle child poverty?

What is working well, and what learning has emerged?

How are children and young people being involved in shaping local responses?

How are local authorities working with the youth sector and other partners?

What challenges are being experienced and where might there be opportunities for greater collaboration?

What can we learn from approaches being taken in other areas of the North East?

The wider aims of the NEYA Child Poverty Network are to:

Raise awareness of the issues surrounding child poverty and the solutions being developed to address them.

Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the youth sector to address child poverty.

Support the sector to understand the experiences and issues faced by young people living with or affected by child poverty.

Connect local, regional and national agendas, supporting colleagues to improve practice and remain up to date with developments in the field.

We hope the event will provide a valuable space for colleagues to share good practice, identify common themes and challenges, and consider where we can work collectively to influence and improve outcomes for children and young people across the North East.
