Join us on Sunday 13th September from 10:00am - 12:00pm for our next Wild Wander: River Watch at Hetton Park and Bogs!
We will be taking a walk around Hetton Park and Hetton Bogs, led by Hetton Park and Bogs Officer, Alex. The theme of this walk is River Watch- in support of The River Trust's Big River Watch 2026. Alex will talk us through the different species we encounter in the river, explaining the importance of each to the wider habitat and other wildlife. This will include a 15-minute survey of the river, where we will be submitting our data to The Rivers Trust as part of their nationwide citizen science campaign. All ID materials including guides and lenses will be provided.
Please meet Alex at The Hetton Centre (what3words///warms.comforted.example) for 10am, where free parking is available. Alex will then lead the group into and around the park, returning to The Hetton Centre for 12pm.
Everyone welcome - no prior experience or knowledge necessary! Under 18s are also welcome, provided they attend with a parent or guardian. We kindly ask that no dogs are brought along to Wild Wanders, with the exception of guide and assistance dogs. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Closed-toed shoes, long sleeves and long trousers are advised.
Please note, this walk may involve walking off path and up/down hills, but we will not be entering the river itself. If you have any concerns surrounding accessibility, please contact our Hetton Park and Bogs officer, Alex, at aswainston@durhamwt.co.uk or call us on 0191 5843112 and ask for Alex.
