About This Event

The John Abell exhibition, 'Dod yn ôl at fy nghoed | Return to my trees', is a recurring series running on selected dates at Dinefwr in Swansea, with admission required.

John Abell’s interest in the literature, folk history and poetry of Wales is concurrent with his long-term personal experiences of being in the landscape. These paintings reveal a deep knowledge, familiarity and spiritual connection to the landscape of Wales, deepened by the folklore and mythology of Wales.

John Abell’s paintings are poetic and otherworldly, bold, colourful and rich with repeating patterns and motifs. Blending landscape with storytelling, the paintings explore the folklore of the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) and draw from rich and ancient sources such as pagan myths, early Christian stories, and the many branches of the Mabinogi (a collection of magical and mythological Welsh tales).
