The Wakefield After Dark talk, presented by photographer Richard Walls, will take place on 15 October 2026 at The Kingswood Suite in Wakefield Town Hall, discussing his approach to photographing the city at night.
Join us for this free talk when photographer Richard Walls will talk about how he went about photographing Wakefield at night.
Richard is a British landscape photographer living and working in Upper Dales region of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. With his wife, Polly, Richard owns and runs The Old School Muker Art Gallery & Craft Centre situated in the village of Muker, set within the stunning surroundings of Upper Swaledale. Inspired by this wonderful landscape he has published three photography books, Kisdon Landscapes , The Muker Wildflower Meadow Photography Guide and the Yorkshire Dales Landscape Photography Companion.
For this talk, Richard shifts his focus to the city of Wakefield, where he lived for over twenty years, with a selection of photographs taken after the sun has long set. During the talk he’ll speak about the advantages and rewards of nighttime photography, the techniques used for capturing the atmosphere of the city after dark, and how the project made him re-evaluate and appreciate a city that he has known since childhood.
The talk is free to attend and is open to anyone interested in the subject. It will be held in the Kingswood Suite on the first floor of the Town Hall (lift available). We hope to have a supply of Richard's books, calendars and other work available to purchase on the night.
