An event launching Prompts for the Mover by Deirdre Grant & Active Speech, essays on Teresa Deevy co-edited by Úna Kealy & Kate McCarthy

SETU, in conjunction with Waterford Libraries Service, are excited to launch two brand new books by SETU staff, Prompts for the Mover by Deirdre Grant and Active Speech: Critical Perspectives on Teresa Deevy, a collection of scholarly essays co-edited by Úna Kealy and Kate McCarthy.

Prompts for the Mover is inspired by Deirdre Grant's return to the professional dance community after a cancer diagnosis and treatment. Prompts for the Mover will be of interest to dance artists, theatre practitioners and other creatives who may feel ‘stuck’ in their practice or for artists and creatives who wish to re-ignite, restart and/or recover their practice. Prompts for the Mover, was developed in conjunction with fine art photographer, Pádraig Grant and supported by the Arts Council of Ireland, Waterford City and County Council & Garter Lane Arts Centre.

Active Speech is a groundbreaking collection of scholarly essays and practitioner interviews focused on the work of Irish playwright Teresa Deevy. Acts of recovery in the 1980s and 1990s challenged Deevy’s exclusion from the literary canon, reclaiming her contributions as significant to Irish drama and theatre. Active Speech builds on this work presenting and considering contemporary scholarship and practice of Deevy's work. As a deafened woman and Irish playwright, Deevy’s creative power continues to disrupt and tilt the canon of Irish drama, theatre, and performance. Active Speech is available in hard copy and is also available free to download here (https://www.openbookpublishers.com/books/10.11647/OBP.0432).
