The Three Sisters Gerontological Simulation Collaborative will take place on 18 November 2026 at the Waterford Integrated Care for Older People Hub. This interactive event focuses on simulation-based education in Geriatric Medicine. Participation is free.
Join us for an interactive and challenging evening of simulation-based education in Geriatric Medicine.
Welcome to Three Sisters (SImulation in the SouTh East Region) Gerontological Simulation Collaborative!
The inspiration for the name of this event comes from three sister rivers in the region- the Nore, the Suir, and the Barrow- which flow through the counties in the South East Region to converge at Cumar na dTri Uisce (Confluence of the Three Waters). These three rivers are deeply ingrained in the history and growth of the region and, in a way, mirror the network of care provided to older people in the South East. This event aims to create an educational collaborative in the South East and represents our Cumar na dTri Uisce, where all the Geriatric Departments in the region meet to share experience and knowledge and advance geriatric medicine in the region through immersive training.
This event will provide participants with the opportunity to participate in and observe realistic clinical scenarios relevant to Geriatric Medicine in the WICOP Simulation Lab. These scenarios will be followed by a facilitated debrief and discussion. The scenarios will focus on clinical decision making, communication, teamwork, and the management of complex, older patients.
The event is aimed primarily at doctors working in or with an interest in geriatric medicine, including consultants, specialist registrars, and registrars working in hospitals across the South-East. The emphasis will be on participation, reflection, and shared learning in a supportive educational environment.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
Identify clinical priorities when assessing an older person presenting with an acute or complex clinical problem in simulated geriatric scenarios.
Apply a structured approach to clinical assessment and decision making in simulated geriatric scenarios.
Demonstrate effective communication and teamwork when managing challenging clinical scenarios.
Recognise the contribution of human factors to clinical decision making and patient safety.
Describe the role of simulation and structured debriefing in ongoing professional and team-based learning.
