From Page to Stage: a slam poetry workshop is part of Mind Over Slammer, a national initiative that merges bespoke workshops and regional poetry slams, culminating in a Grand Finale in the heart of London, with £3,000 in Grand Finale prize money!

Writing a poem and performing it in front of judges are two different skills. This workshop helps you build both.

We’ll focus on a combination of writing and performing exercises helping you write a new piece or polish an existing draft. We’ll also take a closer look at some slam poetry examples and why they work!

You’ll leave with:

•⁠ ⁠a tightened poem or idea

•⁠ ⁠⁠sharper delivery

•⁠ ⁠actionable strategies for stage fright

•⁠ ⁠⁠inspiration from fellow poets!

The workshop will be split into two sections: one focused on writing and one focused on performing.

In the writing section we’ll cover:

•⁠ ⁠generating ideas

•⁠ ⁠revision strategies for working with drafts

•⁠ ⁠taking a closer look at some poetic devices and why they work

In the performance section we’ll cover:

•⁠ ⁠performance styles

•⁠ ⁠practical rehearsal strategies

•⁠ ⁠dealing with performance anxiety

There will be time for questions and optional sharing too.

No experience necessary - you’re welcome even if you’ve never written poetry before and just want to try something new!
