Walk Description:
This is a challenging walk for Thursday walkers! But has its rewards. 3.5 miles and 400ft total ascent.
After leaving the station the route climbs gently and steadily through woodland paths and housing estates and eventually pops out on the edge of Pedmore. It then follows lanes with further gentle climbs before branching right to Wychbury Ring hill fort. Beyond the woodland of the hill fort is another hill proudly crowned by an obelisk, constructed by Lord Lyttleton in 1747, and restored in 2011. There are views across the black Country and south to Worcestershire and east to Birmingham.
After a snack/ picnic with a view, the route follows the Monarch’s way back to Pedmore and then descends through woodland and fields to Stourbridge Junction Station.
For those who would like replenishing refreshments, there will be the opportunity to relax at the Seven Stars, (Grade11 listed) pub 3 minutes from the station. There are 4 trains an hour to Birmingham for the return trip. There are some short uneven sections of footpaths where a walking pole will help. The climbing is all gentle and steady except for 30ft optional stomp up to the Obelisk.
Bookings for this walk will close at 06.00 on Tuesday 15 September. After this, please email bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com to enquire about any late availability for the walk.
===================================================================
If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you. Please note that some walks have a waiting list so tickets are NOT TRANSFERABLE; if you are unable to join us then please cancel your place to free it up for someone who may be on the waiting list rather than passing it to someone else.
