2026 is the 90th anniversary of the SCW. Since the early 1980s, there has been considerable interest in Irish involvement with the war. Organizations which have been actively engaged in commemoration of the SCW include Belfast City Council, Derry and Strabane District Council, Belfast and Derry trades councils, the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, the International Brigades Memorial Trust, Friends of the International Brigades in Ireland (FIBI), and the Irish Labour History Society. BBC NI will be promoting a ‘90th anniversary package’ throughout the year. The media response is a neglected aspect of SCW studies in Ireland.
Sponsored by the Centre for Communication, Media and Cultural Studies and School of Arts and Humanities (T.K. Daniel Fund).
Organizers: Will Burton, School of Communication and Media; Emmet O’Connor, History
