Programme: The Start of St Alban’s Mission in 1865 The Temporary Church of St Alban on Leopold Street The First ‘Permanent’ Church in 1871 The Road to the Present Church of St Alban the Martyr William Butterfield – First Choice of Architect John Loughborough Pearson – A More Suitable Choice Pearson’s Drawings for the Present Church The Church as opened in 1881 – Early Additions Some Features of Pearson’s Architecture What has been Lost? What has been added? Entrance for this event is through the step-free cloister entrance via a path beside the church from a gate on Stanhope Street. Door open from 3:30 p.m. There is no admission charge, but donations for our organ restoration fund are welcomed. Toilets are available (including a wheelchair-friendly one).
