A talk titled 'In Conversation: Pete Wharmby & Lisa Galley in Bristol' will be held at Waterstones in Bristol on 15 September 2026. The discussion will focus on supporting autistic children in education, with tickets priced between £5 and £6.
How can we really help autistic children in education?
We're delighted to host Pete Wharmby and Lisa Galley for a discussion on education and care for autistic children.
In Different Minds, neurodivergence campaigner Pete Wharmby shines a light on what it's like to be autistic in Western school systems today, so we can understand how to support our children through the most important years of their lives.
With gentle science, practical tools and deep validation, Lisa Galley's Parenting your Autistic Child explains exactly what is happening in your child's brain and body during these difficult moments – when they refuse to get dressed, experience sensory overload or meltdown at 3.30pm – offering practical strategies that work with their nervous system rather than against it.
This informative and compassionate talk will be your chance to learn more, ask questions and get copies of the books signed.
Peter Wharmby is a neurodivergence campaigner and former teacher who was diagnosed autistic at age 34. He is also father to an autistic child. Shocked by the statistics around depression, anxiety and life expectancy for autistic people, Pete has immersed himself in working to improve neurodiversity awareness, acceptance and making the world a more suitable place for the neurodivergent community to live in.
Lisa Galley is an Autism Family Consultant, and former Speech and Language Therapist. She is also a dedicated mum to grown-up autistic kids. Her mission is to empower parents of neurodivergent children to reject the unrealistic neurotypical expectations that society places on autistic children, and to embrace intuitive parenting that aligns with the unique needs of their amazing kids.
