Abstract

In her lecture, Histories of South Asian Migration and the Search for Belonging, Professor Sumita Mukherjee asks: Where does the history of South Asian migration belong? How has the nineteenth and twentieth century movement of people from the Indian subcontinent influenced social and political change around the world? Offering wide-ranging discussion on how mobile South Asians have shaped ideas of gender, race and empire, Professor Mukherjee will engage with personal, political and historical reflections to showcase the ongoing importance and vibrancy of histories relating to ‘South Asians on the move’.
