Lilly Hodges
Assistant Community Engagement Manager, Cotsworld Archaeology
Archaeological excavations at Foundry Field Burnham Market, north-west Norfolk in 2014 and 2015, uncovered the site of one of largest early Anglo-Saxon inhumation cemeteries excavated to date. The cemetery has been identified as a community burial ground with predominant use in the sixth to seventh centuries, before becoming the site of execution burials in the later seventh to ninth centuries. Unusually for an Anglo-Saxon cemetery in Norfolk there were high levels of preservation of bone, textile and other organics at Foundry Field. The excavation and post excavation were lead by Lilly Hodges during her time at NPS Archaeology.
