About This Event

Expert Liz Stockdale discusses farmer-focused options for soil management in the Fens. Dr Elizabeth Stockdale from the National Institute for agricultural Botany (NIAB) has over 25 years applied soil and nutrient management research experience. Liz will explore the triple challenge faced in lowland peat landscapes where farmers are being asked to help deliver food security, net zero and improve biodiversity all at the same time. In this context, rewetting to protect peat soils is an important option, but this may make current farming systems infeasible. Hence new farming systems and new crops may be needed. We’ll explore some of the options and their implications together. This talk is offered in partnership with Cambridge University's Centre for Landscape Regeneration (https://www.clr.conservation.cam.ac.uk/). Please look out for more talks in our Fenland Folk: Heritage and Landscape series. The talk will take place in the Conference Room on the 3rd Floor of Cambridge Central Library. There is a lift to the 3rd Floor and accessible toilets on this level.
