Using raw sheep's wool, hand-spun yarns and traditional weaving tools, you'll learn the fundamentals of preparing wool, spinning thread and weaving on specially made tabletop looms. Throughout the day you'll create your own woven sample while discovering techniques passed down through generations. Beginning from flocks and tufts of sheep’s wool, participants will see how these are teased and spun into threads that can then be woven into rhythmic patterns.
The workshop also explores the art of weaving as a form of spontaneous and free expression, and as a mindful practice, encouraging participants to slow down, meditative immersion and collective memory.
Open to all levels of participation, from complete beginners to those with experience. Ideal for anyone with a deeper interest in learning spinning, weaving and exploring more intricate weaving systems and wool-work.
What you'll experience:
Preparing and spinning raw wool using traditional drop spindles called the ‘fuso’
Working with an eclectic mix of hand spun threads and raw wools that have been naturally cold-dyed using Paleolithic techniques
Learning the basics of hand weaving on specially made tabletop looms
Creating your own woven textile sample
Exploring traditional tools and techniques in a welcoming, supportive environment
