An embroidered nature textile course consisting of three workshops begins on 22 September 2026 at The Weigh To Shop in Durham. The £175 event, led by various instructors, falls under the workshops category.
An inspiring series of workshops to create your own unique embroidered art inspired by nature.
This series of three inspiring workshops will take you through the whole process of creating your own unique embroidered piece of textile artwork inspired by nature.
There are three workshops in this course, 22nd September, 20th October and 17th November, from 6-8.30pm with the intention being all three are attended as they build upon the previous work. The cost shown is for all three workshops.
These workshops will begin with learning some simple, yet effective and inspiring, ways to design for embroidery. You don’t need to be good at drawing or even feel confident with drawing as we’ll use my tried and tested methods to create a range of design options that cover both more realistic designs and more abstract ones. We’ll then decide which designs you would most like to use in your final artwork and begin samples for those.
During workshop two, you’ll finish sampling and begin to create your embroidery, which will be completed during the third workshop. You are welcome to use hand embroidery, free motion embroidery or a combination of both to create your artwork. (You will need to bring your own sewing machine for free motion embroidery, with appropriate foot. We will talk about this during the first workshop)
There will be lots of group demonstrations as well as lots of individual guidance and support.
This workshop is for those who would like to stretch their embroidery skills, design their own artwork and learn this process. It is suitable for beginners as well as the more accomplished embroiderer. Working in a very small group of a maximum of 6, allows for plenty of support and guidance when needed, a chance to ask all of the questions you have as well as being able to get to know those at the workshop with you.
