Take inspiration from Durham Cathedral’s beautiful stained glass windows and create your own piece of glass art in a hands-on workshop with local glass artist Rita Griskonyte. The workshops will take place between 10am-1pm in the historic Chapter House, surrounded by the Cathedral’s remarkable architecture and stained glass. A dedicated area will be reserved for workshop participants, although the Chapter House will remain open to visitors throughout the session. Begin with a sketching session using soft pastels, where you can explore ideas and experiment with colour before moving on to glass. You will then try glass cutting and create your design on a 30cm × 10cm clear glass base, using a selection of colourful glass frits and stringers. Your finished piece will be fired in a kiln after the workshop and will be ready to collect from the Cathedral approximately 14 days later. This workshop is suitable for anyone aged 18 and over, whether you are working with fused glass for the first time or looking to develop your creative practice.
