As a creative corvid, you know better than most that the stories we tell shape the worlds we inhabit. But what about the stories we tell about ourselves? Long before we ever put pen to paper, we each developed an internal narrative - a kind of life script that runs quietly on autopilot, influencing how we see ourselves, how we relate to others, and what we believe is possible for us. This month’s session in our Creative Roots, Open Wings (CROW) wellbeing series explores these inner tales.
Psychologists like Alfred Adler and Eric Berne have long recognised that these scripts form early in life and become our default way of moving through the world. They're the voice that says I'm not the kind of person who... or I've never been able to... They’re often so familiar we mistake them for facts, rather than stories we've been rehearsing for years. And like any first draft, they've served a purpose. But they don't have to be the final version.
Certified coach Caitlin McDonald will lead us through a session using the tools you’ve already honed in your creative practice: memory, reflection, image, and language - to surface some of those deep-running narratives and gently begin to revise them. We'll draw on early memories as raw material, explore what they've meant for the scripts we carry today, and experiment with small but powerful reframings: the kind of subtle rewrites that don't erase the original, but open the door to something new. You won't leave with a finished story - but you might leave with a more interesting one in progress.
Bring a notebook and pen, or steal one from our magpie stash, and be ready for some of the most important revising you’ll ever do.
