The Designer in Residence: Siobhan Mackenzie - Threads of Legacy exhibition at the Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel in Edinburgh on 28 May 2026 will showcase a collection of Siobhan Mackenzie's designs.
Scottish designer Siobhan Mackenzie - known for dressing everyone from Justin Bieber to Alan Cumming for The Traitors - unveils a never-before-seen collection created in partnership with Kenneth Mackenzie Ltd. Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel & Spa has announced Scottish designer Siobhan Mackenzie as its latest Artist-in-Residence and first designer-in-residence, unveiling to the public a special collaboration with Kenneth Mackenzie Ltd, celebrating 120 years of the world’s oldest working Harris Tweed millhouse. Launching on 28 May 2026 and running until 30 September 2026, the exhibition will be open to the public in The Garden at Kimpton Charlotte Square, offering guests and visitors an exploration of over a decade of her innovative designs. The exhibition will feature selected works from across Mackenzie’s career, including a kilt outfit worn and loaned to the exhibition by Sam Heughan for the Outlander Season 8 premiere, alongside a look worn by fellow Outlander star Richard Rankin and a couture dress worn by Harriet Slater of Outlander: Blood of My Blood. The exhibition also features Team Scotland’s official 2026 Commonwealth Games flag bearers looks, which were recently unveiled ahead of the summer games in Glasgow. The collaboration between Scottish designer Siobhan Mackenzie and Kenneth Mackenzie Ltd celebrates 120 years of one of Scotland’s most enduring textile legacies. Founded in 1906, Kenneth Mackenzie remains the oldest operating Harris Tweed mill, with generations of island weavers, craftspeople and families at the heart of every cloth produced. Created for the anniversary, the LEÒDHAS collection reimagines traditional Harris Tweed through sculptural silhouettes, contemporary tailoring and dramatic detailing inspired by the landscapes and architecture of the Isle of Lewis. Alongside the collection, the exhibition explores the story of the mill itself - from the weaving process and original loom to archive photography, historic documents and handwritten correspondence from Vivienne Westwood requesting Harris Tweed fabrics. Open to the public throughout the summer at Kimpton Charlotte Square, the exhibition will also offer immersive workshops, talks and bespoke fittings for hotel guests. Born and raised in the Highlands, Siobhan launched her namesake label just five days after graduating with a First-Class Honours degree in Fashion Design & Production. Her work blends contemporary tailoring with traditional Scottish craftsmanship, bridging modern design with heritage techniques, and has earned her an international clientele including Jared Leto, Justin Bieber, Shania Twain and Alan Cumming for the US version of The Traitors. Through the new designs and archive, the exhibition presents Harris Tweed not simply as heritage cloth, but as a living creative medium — shaped by craftsmanship, community and modern Scottish identity. Kimpton Charlotte Square’s Artist in Residence programme champions local and Scottish creatives through rotating exhibitions, live art activations and cultural collaborations and has been running since 2021. The programme has previously featured artists across photography, painting and mixed media disciplines, with Siobhan Mackenzie becoming the hotel’s first designer-in-residence. Throughout the summer, the hotel will host a series of immersive workshops for guests, alongside opportunities to experience fittings and bespoke design consultations with Mackenzie.
