This inspiring Botanical Textile Art Workshop combines fabric collage, appliqué, free-motion embroidery and optional hand embroidery to create richly textured, contemporary textile art that celebrates nature. Whether you're new to textile art or already enjoy creative stitching, you'll learn how to build an original composition using layered fabrics, organic shapes and expressive stitch. Rather than copying a set design, you'll develop your own unique artwork, exploring colour, texture and composition as your piece evolves. What you'll learn Beginning with a carefully composed background of layered fabrics – with the option to incorporate selected papers for additional texture – you'll gradually build your design using appliquéd botanical forms (using provided templates if you don't want to draw your own) before bringing the whole piece to life with free-motion embroidery. As you stitch, you'll discover how machine embroidery becomes a form of drawing, using thread to create delicate stems, flowing grasses, seedheads and intricate surface detail. If you wish, you can complete your artwork with carefully placed hand embroidery to add further texture and personal expression.
