About This Event

Meeting Samhain is an immersive ritual performance taking place on 6 November 2026 at the O'Donoghue Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance. This event invites participants to explore the Celtic festival of Samhain through storytelling and ritual. Attendance is free.

Meeting Samhain—a immersive ritual performance

As the days grow shorter and the veil between worlds begins to thin, you are invited to step into Meeting Samhain, an immersive ritual performance that explores the Celtic festival of Samhain through story and ritual.

Guided by an ancient Oak tree, mythic storytelling, and seasonal ritual, participants will journey into the landscape of darkness, not as something to fear, but as a place of transformation, remembrance, and reconnection. Drawing upon Irish mythology, ecological imagination, and the wisdom of the Celtic Wheel of the Year, this one-hour experience invites us to deepen our relationship to the living world.

Meeting Samhain is the first in a series of four seasonal performances being developed as part of Nicole O'Byrne's practice as research based PhD project at the University of Galway. Together, these performances explore how ritual performance inspired by Irish mythology can cultivate deeper relationships with nature and inspire climate engagement through embodied, cyclical experiences.

We are currently seeking a small cohort of participants who would like to attend all four performances over the coming year. By returning through multiple seasonal events, participants will experience the unfolding cycle of the research and contribute to the development of a new approach to ecological performance.

If you are interested in joining the full four-performance journey, please sign up here: Meeting the Seasons CoHort – Fill in form (https://forms.cloud.microsoft/e/b8SnKJRjpk)
