Join us on a guided walk of Linn Park to explore and learn about locations, now back to nature, where industry began and developed.
As part of the Doors Open Days Festival, join us for a walk to explore locations, now back to nature, where industry started and developed from the 17th century onwards. Learn about features that, at first glance, look natural, but are actually the man-made remnants of mills, quarries, and mines. The walk will be a loop of just under 5km/3 mi, starting at Snuff Mill Bridge, traveling first up the west bank of the River Cart, crossing the Ha'penny Bridge, and then returning through the park to Snuff Mill Bridge via the Seil Drive Park Entrance and Old Castle Road.
Attendee Info (ticket holders only):
Open to all aged 16+
Meet on Snuff Mill Bridge in Cathcart, 1245 for a 1pm start.
The walk will last 1.5-2 hours.
It is possible to bring a dog but please use a short lead at all times and consider that we will be a large group listening to the tour guide.
Accessibility
The walk will include uneven ground, some muddy paths and undulating terrain. Walking ability and fitness are required. Sections of the path are not wheelchair accessible or suitable for those with mobility impairments. Please advise your guide of any vision or hearing needs prior to start.
Sturdy footwear is recommended. Check the weather beforehand - rain-proof clothing advisable if it looks changeable.
Unfortunately there are no toilet facilities but one of the cafe’s or the Old Smiddy pub in Cathcart may allow use.
Transport
There are regular trains to Cathcart from Central Station
The Number 4, 4A and 6 buses stop very close on HolmleaRd/Clarkston road travelling through Glasgow City Centre or from Newton Mearns/Clarkston (4 & 4A) and East Kilbride (6).
On street parking is possible on Rhannon and Old Castle Roads
