As part of Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival, join us for a walk to explore the historic village of Strathbungo, now largely vanished, before walking through the Victorian suburb. Learn about the area's buildings, its builders and architects, and some of its early residents. We will start at The Cooperage. (674 Pollokshaws Road, enter through the pend) Then a short walk to the crossroads at Allison Street, up Nithsdale Street, into Moray Place, and then up and down the streets (and maybe lanes) of Strathbungo before ending at Titwood Road or returning to The Cooperage, if required. [event is for attendees age 16+ only].
The walk will take 1.5 - 2 hours and is approx 2.2km / 1.4 miles length
The walk is entirely at street level, and given the narrow pavements in Strathbungo, often in the street itself. It should be wheelchair accessible if you can manage typical Glasgow streets and kerbs. Please advise your guide of any vision or hearing needs prior to start.
Comfortable footwear suitable for walking and standing for a period of time. Outdoor clothing appropriate for changeable weather.
Unfortunately there are no toilet facilities, but they may be available in the various Strathbungo cafes after the walk.
Regular trains from Glasgow Central to Queens Park (4 min walk) or Pollokshields West (8 min walk). Regular buses on Pollokshaws Road, alight at Strathbungo Parish Church if coming from town. Cycle racks at the Cooperage, bike station at Balvicar Street. On-street parking available on side streets.
It is possible to bring a dog, but please keep them on a short lead at all times. Bear in mind we will be a large group travelling and standing in the road at times.
