About This Event

Following the release of beavers in Badenoch, a walk will show their impact around Kingussie on 15 September 2026 at 10:00. The event takes place at Spey Street car park and tickets cost £9.38.

Following the release of beavers in Badenoch, this walk will show the impact they are having around Kingussie.

Come and join Jonathan Willet, Beaver Project Manager at the Cairngorms National Park (CNPA), and Alastair Macpherson who will talk not only about the settlement of the beavers but also the land use of the property over the years.

In 2023, following months of engagement with landowners, communities and partners, the CNPA led on the UK's first licenced wild release of beavers to an area where the species was not already present. This allowed for 15 pairs of beavers to be released over a five year period. The first pair of beavers were released into Lochan Mor (Lily Loch) on Rothiemurchus in December 2023, with subsequent releases at sites owned by the RSPB and Forestry and Land Scotland, Wildland Cairngorm and a private landowner.

The beavers then navigated their way to make their own lodges and some have settled close to Kingussie.

Bring waterproofs, wellies or sturdy walking boots (depending on the weather), and a good dollop of curiosity.

This route is graded as EASY. The walk will be on generally level ground though it may be rough underfoot in places.
