The Heritage Festival brings a tour led by Roger Knight, abstracting the Allt an t-Sluic and the Tummel scheme.
Join Roger Knight when he will take us to the Allt an t-Sluic, which is abstracted by Dalwhinnie Distillery and then the Tummel scheme.
The tour will be led by the Roger Knight, Chief Exective Officer of the Spey Catchment Initiative.
Following on from tours at previous festivals, Roger will this time take us to the Allt an t-Sluic, near Dalwhinnie. This is abstracted twice, once by Dalwhinnie Distillery but then also by the Tummel Hydroelectric Scheme via Loch Ericht. As you can see from the picture below, not much of the water appears to reach the Spey! This is the final part of the jigsaw in understanding abstraction from the River Spey and its tributaries.
In addition, it is hoped that a visit can be made to see and understand the works that will be undertaken to the confluence of the River Tromie and the Spey on Insh Marshes.
The tour will start at 11am, so please aim to turn up 10 minutes before the start at the Spey Street Car Park, where we will consoldiate into four wheel drive vehicles.
Please bring a packed lunch and drinks with you for sustenance.
Pre-booking is essential.
Please wear stout footwear as the ground may be rough underfoot. Also please wear outerwear that is appropriate for the weather on the day.
We look forward to meeting you at the event!
