Explore simple hand-weaving techniques using fabric scraps to create your own woven piece, giving old and leftover textiles a new life!

Join artist Nayaab Mahomed and the Woven Collective for our Heritage Sunday weaving workshop. Weaving is one of the oldest textile-making practices, transforming individual threads and materials into something new through simple, repeated movements.

In this session, we’ll take inspiration from this tradition of making and resourcefulness, using fabric scraps to explore weaving through a sustainable lens. All materials are provided, but feel free to bring along any fabric scraps you’d like to weave into your piece.

The session will begin with a guided tour at DMU Museum at 10.00am, where we will explore objects from the collection and discuss textile traditions and heritage. The workshop will then start at 10.30am at Leicester Castle, where you will be guided to creating your own women piece. Please arrive promptly.

If you are unable to attend the museum tour or arrive after 10.00am, please go directly to Leicester Castle and do not come to the museum.

These workshops are free to attend thanks to funding support and places are in high demand. If you can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket as soon as possible so that someone on the waiting list can take your place. Failure to cancel with reasonable notice may result in being unable to book future sessions.
