About This Event

The London Archives hosts an evening event featuring author Hazel Atashroo. The session examines the Greater London Council's radical vision from 1981 to 1986 through art, posters and events. Tickets are £10.00.

Join author Hazel Atashroo to hear Greater London Council (GLC)'s 1980s radical vision using posters, art and events to challenge injustice.

This special evening event features a talk from Hazel - and a selection of original materials from the GLC's archive collection will be on display too.

In the early 1980s, London’s city-wide authority, the GLC, embarked upon a radical experiment in how to run the capital. Drawing on material from the GLC's archive collection (held at The London Archives) and her new book London’s Ours!, Hazel will explore the GLC’s extensive use of poster campaigns, public art and popular events to campaign against racism, sexism and nuclear war - and eventually, their own abolition.

About the Book:

Featuring over 250 images, the book documents the remarkable visual culture of the GLC. Sometimes confrontational and frequently humorous, it offers a vivid portrait of a transformative moment in British politics and London life.
