Jake Arnott visits Foyles to celebrate the release of the vivid and unsettling 'Netherwood', with Travis Elborough.
A sensuous and unsettling modern gothic folk horror about a young couple who move to the town of Hastings and find themselves living in the former home of a notorious local occultist.
After personal trauma and professional failure in London, Justine and Adam move to Hastings, hoping that the charming fisherman's cottage overlooking the sea will be the perfect place to make a new life together. But their new home holds many secrets, including a cave at the back of it, and a witch bottle said to ward of bad spirits. Soon, they discover a dark history that haunts this seaside town.
Jake Arnott is the author of nine novels. His critically acclaimed and bestselling debut The Long Firm was adapted as a BAFTA award-winning BBC TV series. He has since published He Kills Coppers (which was made into a widely praised ITV1 drama) truecrime, Johnny Come Home, The Devil's Paintbrush, The House of Rumour, The Fatal Tree and Blood Rival.
Travis Elborough has been a freelance writer, author, broadcaster and cultural commentator for nearly two decades. Elborough’s books include Wish You Were Here: England on Sea, The Long-Player Goodbye, a hymn to vinyl records that inspired the BBC4 documentary When Albums Ruled the World, in which he also appeared, and A Walk in the Park, a loving exploration of public parks and green space. Elborough regularly appears on Radio 4 and recently wrote and presented the five-part series, The Rise and Fall of the Antique, and is a frequent contributor to the Guardian and Observer, among other newspapers and magazines.
