The RIBA South East Sustainability Group will host an online session titled 'Sustainability in Practice Series' on 15 September 2026 in London. The event addresses climate literacy within architectural practice and is free to attend.
Climate literacy is becoming an increasingly important part of architectural practice but knowing where to start can be challenging. Starting with key climate science and legislation that establish 'the need', we work towards the RIBA Sustainable Outcomes Guide - the framework that turns climate awareness into deliverable design. Linked by our professional responsibility, this practical grounding in what climate literacy means for everyday practice, provides free resources to support your professional development. Rather than replacing or replicating the learning provided through the RIBA Climate Literacy programme, this seminar is intended as a complementary introduction and discussion session. It provides an overview of key concepts, helping participants build confidence in the terminology, frameworks and challenges that underpin climate literacy, while signposting resources and opportunities for further learning. The session aligns with topics 1 and 2 of the RIBA Climate Literacy Knowledge Schedule and can act as a useful starting point for those considering the RIBA Climate Literacy programme, as well as a refresher for those wishing to reinforce and contextualise their learning. The RIBA South East Sustainability Special Interest groups Sustainability in Practice Series is a programme of free seminars that supports architects in developing their understanding of sustainability and climate-related design challenges. Led by industry experts and RIBA South East Sustainability Group leads Patrick Osborne and Dr Richard Kulczak-Dawkins, the series offers accessible insights, practical discussion and signposting to further learning, helping practitioners navigate their ongoing climate literacy journey. Please note: This session is not a substitute for the RIBA Climate Literacy programme. Instead, it is intended to support and contextualise that learning, providing an accessible introduction to the topics, frameworks and resources that underpin climate-literate practice.
