About This Event

The Theatre Royal Haymarket in London will host the world premiere of James Graham's play, The Standard of Living. The production is a portrait of a man seeking a better life. It is scheduled for 17 October 2026 at 14:30.

About The Standard of Living

The Standard of Living at Theatre Royal Haymarket is a brand new world-premiere play from Olivier Award-winning playwright James Graham, whose work includes Punch, Dear England and Labour of Love. Directed by multi award-winner Nicholas Hytner, whose work includes The History Boys, One Man, Two Guvnors and Giant, it tells the story of economist and Bloomsbury Group member John Maynard Keynes.

The play follows Keynes between the corridors of power in Whitehall and a radical circle of artists, writers and lovers determined to live differently. It also draws on his relationships with Lydia Lopokova, Duncan Grant and Virginia Woolf, as Britain faces market crashes and growing uncertainty.

Alive with music, dance, desire and debate, the production opens in the West End for a strictly limited 12-week season.
