About The Standard of Living

The Standard of Living at Theatre Royal Haymarket is a brand new world-premiere play by Olivier Award-winning playwright James Graham. It opens in the West End for a strictly limited 12-week season.

The play tells the story of economist and Bloomsbury Group member John Maynard Keynes as he moves between Whitehall and a radical circle of artists, writers and lovers. As markets crash and old systems begin to crumble, the story follows his search for what makes a good life.

Written by James Graham and directed by multi award-winner Nicholas Hytner, the production is described as a portrait of a man imagining something different, with music, dance, desire and debate woven through the story.
