A conversation on land, ownership + community-led development through Nubia Way — the UK’s first Black-led self-build housing project.

LAND, OWNERSHIP + COMMUNITY

What does it take for communities to have greater agency over the places they call home?

Join us for an evening with Tim Oshodi of Downham Community Land Trust, exploring land, ownership and community-led development through the story of Nubia Way - the UK’s first Black-led self-build housing project.

Together we’ll explore the journey from an idea to community ownership, what was learned along the way, and what this history can teach us about creating places where communities can put down roots and thrive.

The evening will include film, conversation and space for questions, with food and time to gather together.

This event is part of LAND, the first pillar we’re exploring during PDC’s October Tasting Season.

For PDC, LAND is about sovereignty, equity and belonging, who has access, who gets to shape place, who has ownership and agency, and what our communities need to put down roots and thrive.

Who is this for?

This gathering is for our Black, Brown + Global Majority community.

At People Dem Collective, some of our programme is intentionally created as space for our communities to gather, connect and explore shared experiences. We believe there is value in being able to come together in this way, without having to explain, translate or make ourselves smaller.

Other parts of our programme are open to everyone, creating opportunities for neighbours, friends and allies to come together around joy, creativity, conversation and the values we share.

Both are important to us.

So if this particular event isn’t for you, thank you for understanding why we hold these spaces. There will be other moments throughout October where we’d love to welcome you through the doors.
