Mother of God banish Putin, by Jiří Adámek Austerlitz and Ladislav Železný, Czeck Republic, 55 min, Czeck with English video subtitles
In 2012, the Russian punk band Pussy Riot attempted to perform an anti-Putin song in Moscow’s Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. They were quickly removed by security, but the brief performance led to the arrest of three members. Two of them were convicted in a show trial, sentenced to two years in prison and sent to the toughest penal colonies. Both convicted artists were students of philosophy, and their seemingly naïve activism was based on a well-thought-out relationship to art, the emancipation of women, and Russian society. Their “punk prayer” responded to the 2011election fraud and targeted the Russian Orthodox Church’s close ties to the regime. The protest also criticised questionable business activities within the Church, led by Patriarch Kirill – a former KGB agent and secret billionaire. Mother of God banish Putin captured this protest through three female voices blending litanies, quotes, and song, it explores why Russian society clings to Vladimir Putin, why it is so difficult to banish him from Russian hearts and minds, and who truly blasphemed in the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow – and against what.
Mother of God, banish Putin, was awarded Prix Europe special recommendation in 2025. Jiří Adámek Austerlitz is a theatre author, director and teacher at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. His theatre company BocaLoca Lab invented an original type of experimental theatre, blending musically composed structures with dominant of vocal expression and an unusual approach to language. Working as a librettist and director, he has created new operas with composers Martin Smolka, Michal Nejtek and Petr Hora . He has been awarded various prizes in the Czech Republic and abroad. His radio piece Ears game (2019) was awarded the Karl Sczuka Preis (SWR), the Prix Bohemia award (Czech rep.) and the Gran Prix Nova Rumania.
Ladislav Železný is working at the intersection of visual and sound arts, unconventional music radio creation and curatorial activities. Within the concept of a sonic environments he explores space resonance sound situations in terms of human acting technologies and non-human entities. His radio piece Ears game (2019) was awarded the Karl Sczuka Preis (SWR), the Prix Bohemia award (Czech rep.) and the Gran Prix Nova Rumania.

Bad Roads by Ana Krauthaker, Slovenia, 10 min, Slovenian with English video subtitles
A young women accidentally runs over a chicken with her car. What initially appears to be a courteous and empathetic exchange, soon shifts into a game of manipulation and emotional blackmail. The sixth episode of the Bad Roads series based on a play by Natalya Anatoliyivna Vorozhbyt portraits the escalating state of war in Ukraine’s Donbas region. Focusing on civilians who find themselves in increasingly precarious situations. Pushed to their emotional and physical limits the play interrogates how individuals redefine their ethnical boundaries in the survival mode of war. Bad Roads offers a powerful meditation on the cost of war, and the subtle way in which violence seeps into the fabric of daily life long before the first shot is fired.
Ana Krauthaker is a director, collaborating with RTV Slovenia since 2001. In her radio plays she tries to explore perception and associations, testing the boundaries between silence, emotion, imagination, inner gazing, and sound. For that reason, she prefers creating for or with youngsters as well as small ensembles or projects where research and playing with elements are at the heart of the project. Recently, her research has turned towards more open forms, incorporating documentary materials and collaborating with vulnerable groups, exploring recording methods in relation to the body, landscapes, and voice.
