Namalee Bolle and Lydia Puricelli present a session equipping practitioners to formulate family dynamics and loyalty conflicts affecting mixed race clients. The workshop addresses how developmental racism and microaggressions within the family often surface as presenting issues in therapy.
For many mixed race people, inside the family is where race is first felt as difference — through inter-familial racism and microaggressions, colourism hierachies, prejudices, colour-blindness, or being influenced to choose a racial side. Acknowledging or speaking candidly about the developmental racism they may have faced growing up is often seen as taboo for mixed race people and although it is actually a common theme in mixed backgrounds. Monoracial therapists may be unaware of what really happens in mixed early life. This workshop equips practitioners to formulate the often-unseen family dynamics behind a client's presenting issue, and to work sensitively with the loyalty conflicts and grief that can surface.
**The Mixed + Multiracial Client in Therapy** is a 12-part CPD workshop series for therapists, counsellors and psychotherapists, developed alongside Namalee Bolle's book. Each workshop takes one chapter — from racial interrogation fatigue and interracial family dynamics through to embodiment, voice, trauma, community and legacy — and translates it into practice-ready clinical skill: what to notice, what to ask, and how to work relationally and ethically with mixed and multiracial clients navigating identity, family and healing. Across the series, the workshops build a coherent, chapter-by-chapter clinical companion to the book — standalone tools for a single session, and a cumulative grounding in mixed and multiracial mental health for those who complete the full set.
