A workshop titled 'Using Couples Therapy Ideas to Deepen Individual Client Work' takes place online on 5 November 2026. Led by Georgina Sturmer, it explores attachment-informed therapy techniques for individual clients, with tickets starting at £1.00.
Explore how ideas from attachment-informed couples therapy can deepen your work with individual clients who feel stuck in relationship patterns.
This workshop explores how ideas from attachment-informed couples therapy can enhance our work with individual clients who feel stuck in their relationships. Drawing on Stan Tatkin's PACT model, Sue Johnson's Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method, we'll explore practical ways of understanding the relational patterns our clients become caught in.
Although we're usually hearing about relationships through the eyes of just one person, couples therapy offers a rich source of ideas that can deepen our understanding of what happens between people. Rather than training participants to become couples therapists, this workshop focuses on how these concepts can be adapted to enrich formulation, strengthen reflective functioning and enhance individual therapy.
Using a fictional client throughout, we'll explore concepts including the couple as a two-person system, the relationship dance, the couple bubble, bids for connection and repair. Along the way, you'll be invited to pause, reflect and complete a series of simple drawing exercises, providing practical ideas that can be adapted for use with your own clients.
**You will learn how to:**
- use ideas from attachment-informed couples therapy to deepen your work with individual clients
- recognise the relational patterns that can leave clients feeling stuck
- apply concepts from PACT, EFT and the Gottman Method to enhance case formulation
- support clients to develop greater reflective functioning about their relationships
- use practical, creative interventions to explore connection, conflict and repair in therapy
