The experiential workshop will introduce the existential-phenomenology of movement and explore how movement emerges in the therapeutic relationship. Participants are invited to experiment with their own found movements and reflect on the implications for their practice.
This experiential workshop focuses on how to work with 'found movements' within psychotherapy. All human life emerges out of our lived movement, and our animation constitutes the means by which we have a world. From foetal life onward, our tactile and kinaesthetic experiences are the experiential basis of our existence, and of our bodily life.
Turning to the significance of movement in counselling and psychotherapy, the workshop will begin with a short introduction to the existential-phenomenology of movement. We will then explore the ways in which movement is already emergent and found within the therapeutic relationship, before inviting all participants to experiment with their own found movements, and reflect on the implications for their own practice.
This is an experiential session, so please come ready to move as well as think — no dance or movement background is needed. You'll leave with a felt, practical sense of how attending to found movement, both your own and your client's, can open up new depth and immediacy in the therapeutic relationship.
