The workshop will explore what today's queer world looks like and examine intersectionality regarding gender, sexuality, race, age, and disability. It will look at the impact of homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia in the UK alongside relevant equality laws.
As part of the LGBTQIA+ community I am keen to examine the impact of sexuality of gender identity on our mental health and well-being in a society which is both more accepting and aware whilst arguably more hostile and discriminatory despite the rights that have been gained in many parts of the world. This workshop will explore what today's queer world looks like today, and examine whilst some research suggests that LGBTQIA+ people are still more likely to suffer from poor mental health, addiction and isolation. I will look at the intersectionality between gender, sexuality and other factors such as race, age and disability. I will explore the impact of homophobia, biphobia and transphobia in the UK, the Equality laws, and why it is more important than ever to build a truly inclusive practice in light of the recent Equality and Human's Rights Commission and its potential impact on delivering services for those of who identify as trans or non-binary. .
