Summary
Self-harm is a complex and often misunderstood issue that can affect anyone, regardless of age or background.
Our Self Harm Awareness training equips participants with the knowledge and confidence to respond with empathy, understanding and professionalism.
The course explores the different types of self-harm, the contextual and emotional factors behind it, and the warning signs that may indicate someone is in distress. Through this training, participants learn how to offer effective support using evidence-based interventions and safety planning strategies. The course also covers the impact of trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), the links between self-harm, mental health and suicide, and how to adapt approaches for children, young people and adults.
On completion, learners receive supporting resources and a certificate to recognise their enhanced awareness, skills and confidence. Please be aware that due to the sensitive nature of this course, people that have had recent and/or personal experience of self-harm may find some aspects upsetting. Whilst much of the course will be useful from a self-awareness and reflection perspective, the course is designed at supporting others, rather than as a self-help course. It may therefore not be suitable for individuals with current or recent personal experience of self-harm.
