Escape to the heart of the Peak District National Park for a long weekend of spectacular hiking through one of Britain's most iconic landscapes. We will explore dramatic gritstone edges, rolling moorland, hidden valleys, ancient woodlands and picturesque villages, taking in some of the Peak District's most famous viewpoints along the way. Our base for the weekend is the charming village of Hathersage, nestled in the Hope Valley and surrounded by stunning scenery. Rich in history and famous for its connection to Jane Eyre, Hathersage is the perfect starting point for exploring the National Park, with cosy cafés, traditional pubs and easy access to some of the region's finest walking routes. We will be staying in a friendly hostel in the centre of the village before heading out each day on guided hikes across the Peaks, visiting legendary locations including Stanage Edge, Mam Tor, Win Hill and the beautiful Derwent Valley. There are local options including One Stop and Nisa and an onsite self catering kitchen.

Accommodation: Sleeping in shared dormitories at Base Camp Hathersage, a lovely, welcoming hostel in the heart of the Peak District and the perfect base for a weekend of hiking.

GETTING THERE: Return train travel between London and Hathersage Trains from London St Pancras International time around 3 hrs. There are no direct trains, so you will need to change at Sheffield. Train tickets are not included, we recommend you book well in advance (advance bookings are available 12 weeks before).

GRADE: These hikes are suitable for people with a good level of fitness and regular hiking experience. Routes follow well-marked paths across varied terrain, including rocky sections, moorland, uneven ground, and some steep ascents and descents. Good footwear and suitable outdoor clothing are essential.

Friday: 18:30 Meeting at the hostel Saturday: Our weekend begins with one of the Peak District's most iconic walks. Leaving Hathersage, we climb through beautiful countryside to the dramatic escarpment of Stanage Edge, where sweeping views stretch across the Dark Peak and Hope Valley. Following the edge, we will pass impressive rock formations popular with climbers before descending into the peaceful Burbage Valley. Along the way there will be plenty of opportunities to stop for photos, enjoy a picnic and take in the spectacular scenery before returning to Hathersage for a relaxing evening and dinner in one of the village's traditional pubs. Distance: 17 km Ascent: 550 m Walking Time: Approximately 5–6 hours (excluding breaks) Sunday: Our final day takes us through some of the Peak District's most enchanting woodland. From Hathersage we'll walk towards the beautiful Padley Gorge, following bubbling streams beneath ancient oak and birch trees before climbing onto open moorland with far-reaching views across the National Park. We will return via the scenic Derwent Valley, enjoying a relaxed finish to the weekend before collecting our luggage and making our journey home. Please arrange your return travel for after 3:00 pm. Distance: 11 km Ascent: 350 m Walking Time: Approximately 3–4 hours (excluding breaks)

Please note: In poor weather conditions, particularly strong winds, heavy rain, or low visibility, we may need to adapt the itinerary and change routes for safety reasons. An alternative hike in the Peak District will be chosen depending on the conditions.
